Writing Prompts

Writing Prompt 1: Write about your first relationship in college.

PLEASE NOTE: I’m still friends with a lot of friends from college and I’ve grown up (maybe) since my 2nd year of college, so I’ve fabricated some events and catered them to sound more story-like than real to convey a fun read rather than to bash on anyone. I’m not even sharing this on any social media, so I doubt anyone will find it, but I’m providing this disclaimer just in case.

As Beyonce said in the bridge of Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor”:

You know I’m not gon’ diss you on the internet,
cause my mama taught me better than that.

Without further ado, let’s begin.

I’ve always had commitment issues. From changing my profile picture on MySpace to going from “liking” a boy to “like-liking” a boy, I was the girl who went to prom with her best guy friend because, like N’SYNC once sang, there were noOo strings attached.

5 Ways to Get Boys to Like You (With Foolproof Tips!)

Let’s face it; we’re all trying to find someone, and some of us may be searching harder than others. No matter how much effort you are or aren’t putting forth into finding Mr. Right, most of us see the end of our career paths / life journeys with a companion. We’re not sure what Mr. Right looks like, except for the fact that he’s tall and handsome with a great personality but also knows how to party sometimes and has his own Netflix account due to his high paying job that doesn’t take him away from his family.

But we’re not picky.

After years and years of extensive research, I have come up with a helpful guide for all the single ladies (and fellas, holler) out there in search for “The One.” My research includes, but is not limited to, judging people who are in relationships.

Whether you’re looking for Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now, these five strategies to acquire a man speak of nothing but the truth, so let’s begin.

It’s Not Even My Birthday (My Birthday).

Remember in high school when it was your birthday, and your best friends would bake you cakes and coordinate shirts to spell out your name or something? And your phone would be buzzing with all the texts, and you’d feel the love via, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRLLLL SEE YOU 5TH PERIOD!!! XOXO”. And it kind of sucked if you had a summer birthday or a birthday during a break/weekend because you wouldn’t get to see your friends (aka you wouldn’t get any cake).

**This might be only relevant to my friends from high school cause we went all out for everyone’s birthdays, sigh.**

Anyway, on Sunday, I will be turning 23.

To the “Nice Guys” Complaining About Getting Heartbroken

One spontaneous weekend, I got coaxed into going to Vegas with my best guy friend from high school and a few of his frat bros. The drive was long and boring, and I knew as much about his friends as I could know from their Instagrams, so I decided to hit them with the question that I always ask guys when I want to dig a little deeper:

“So… tell me about your last relationship.”

Technology Ruins Everything: An Organized Rant With Virtually No Solutions

When it comes to phones, computers, and tablets, technology, you’re doing a fantastic job. When it comes to relationships, technology should be referred to wrecknology, because as Miley maybe once said, a wrong text or tweet could come in any time like a wrecking ball.

Do You Have a Plan?

It’s a Wednesday night and my roommate is flipping through DVDs, looking for something to watch, something that we don’t have to think hard to understand yet will intrigue us enough to provide for a few chuckles, one or two outbursts at a bitchy character, and a happy ending. We decided on the RomCom “Just Wright” with Queen Latifah, Common, and an actress whose name I’m too lazy to look up on IMDB. Little did I know that the movie would basically sum up my dating life.. kind of not really but secretly. I couldn’t help but think about the idea of being the “Plan B” girl, and no, we aren’t talking about the little pill you take the morning after. We’re talking about that good girl friend who takes care of the guy anytime of the day or night, the girl who is always there for him, the girl who usually gets screwed over once or twice or 320498 times.
